Cayman Brac and Little Cayman could be joining Sir Richard Branson’s ten island challenge…

Cayman is in talks with experts at the Rocky Mountain Institute and Sir Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room.

The programme aims to fast track the move away from fossil fuels on small islands.

Government is reviewing the costs of a proposed three year partnership that will advise the Electricity Regulatory Authority on how all three islands can make the switch to renewables.

Infrastructure Minister Kurt Tibbetts finds the concept intriguing.

“With the cost of renewables coming down, transitioning to renewables is becoming more economically viable and remains attractive because it’s also kinder to the environment,” said Mr. Tibbetts.
