Staying safe over the summer

The summer holiday is almost here and soon schools will be closing. So for parents it’s time to start thinking about how your child will spend the free time.

Michael Myles of the Ministry of Education says parents need to be extra vigilant of the camps and other summer activities in which they enroll their children. He stresses parents should do their due diligence before leaving their children in the care of others.

Mr Myles said, “At the end of the day you don’t want to put your child in a position where a predator can take advantage of them because there is too many kids in the camp. He added, “Kids are going to be kids at the end of the day, but if they are not supervised in a camp in a place that you are entrusting these people.”

Mr. Myles says parents should ask some basic questions like do the staff at the camp know CPR in the event of an emergency? He also suggests that they as for a full list of activities the camp will be putting on.
