Walton 2nd at New Balance outdoor nationals

Cayman Islands quarter-mile record holder Jamal Walton returned to the track over the weekend when he competed in the boys 400 at the New Balance Outdoor National Championships.

The 17-year old Walton ran out of lane five was neck-and-neck with US high school phenom Tyrese Cooper. Cooper pulled away in the end for the win — breaking the freshman national record in a time of 45.69 seconds — while Walton took second with a time of 46.23 seconds.

Afterward, Walton sent out this tweet indicating he was happy with that time after suffering a hamstring injury last month at the Florida high school state meet:
