Government is inching ahead to complete a part of the new John Gray High School.

Local contractor McAlpine was awarded the contract to finish the job that was started several years and millions of dollars ago.

Government said John Gray High School students will be sitting final exams in a new gym come next May. The Ministry of Education said the project team took on-board the lessons learned from the challenges faced at Clifton Hunter High School, working with teachers to avoid the same types of issues.
The project team says McAlpine delivered the best value for money in its bid to finish the gym, beating out three other companies for the project.

Work ground to a halt at the new JGHS campus back in 2009 due to budgetary constraints.

Out of three high schools initially planned in a $200 million project, only Clifton Hunter has been completed. The schools project has been the country’s largest capital project to date and the subject of a scathing Auditor General’s report.

Work is anticipated to start by the end of July pending building control unit approval.
