Umar Akmal’s work at the crease saved the Trinbago Knight Riders from what appeared to be certain defeat and gave them a win over the St. Lucia Zouks 26 July.
With the top of the Trinbago order crumbling, Akmar smashed 73 from 35 ball — including seven sixes — as the Knight Riders went on to win by three wickets with six balls remaining.
“I’m just fully confident going into this game because it’s my favourite ground,” said Akmal, who was named Man of the Match.
The Zouks set a total of 167 thanks in large part to a 60-run first-wicket partnership between Johnson Charles and Andre Fletcher.
In the chase, but Trinbago openers were out for a combined 14 runs while Denesh Ramdin was out later on for three runs. It looked like a lost cause for the Knight Riders until Akmal’s total got them back in it and Kevon Cooper clinched the win.
