An attempted burglary shuts down the financial services office at the Cayman Islands Hospital.

It was a dramatic scene in the early morning hours, when one of the suspects threatened to shoot. The 911 centre says it was called around 4:30 a.m. about two men attempting a break-in. A responding officer saw one man at the rear of the hospital and gave chase. The officer says the suspect reached for his waistband and threatened to shoot.

The officer, who was not armed, slowed down and saw the suspect escape over the fence of a nearby house. While the financial services office had been entered, police say it appears the one or two suspects were disturbed before they could take anything of value. The office will reopen tomorrow at the regular time of 8:30 a.m.
