CayFilm told Cayman 27 a movie’s controversial subject matter shouldn’t disqualify it from taking home honours at the festival.

Festival director Tony Mark said CayFilm’s best feature winner, the LGBT themed film, ‘Love is all you need’, tackles an issue that has divided public opinion in the country.

He said even dealing with the controversial subject matters, which included bullying, the movie was hands down the best in the category.

“I decided early on that this film festival was going to be about quality films. I wasn’t going to let what was the best film in that category not get in because it’s subject matter,” said Mr. Mark. “And so, we had all the judges watch the final six again to see what they all said, and we all agreed it really was the best film.”
