Several dozen of the Cayman Islands’ fittest athletes came out 26 June for the Try-This-Tri triathlon.
The event is put on by the Cayman Islands Triathlon Association as a fun event. No official results were recorded, according to organisers.
Darrel Evans Jr. was the first to finish. Those involved say it’s a good way to hone your skills and get in the triathlon spirit.
“This was strictly just a training run,” Evans Jr. said. “I had absolutely no expectations coming into the race. This is in due preparation for my big race in Racine (Wisconsin) 17 July. That’s a half-Ironman. So today was just kind of a race prep.”
Organisers hope to drum up some more interest in the November triathlon.
“It’s the first triathlon of the year,” Triathlon Association representative Matthew Volkwyn said.
“It’s an introduction to people who aren’t normally good at triathlons or want to get into the sport, who are really interested in it. We hold this free event and people are starting to get involved.”
