Nicolas Pooran smashed 81 from 39 balls to lead the Barbados Tridents to a 25-run win over the St. Lucia Zouks in Caribbean Premier League play.
The Tridents sit in third place in the CPLT20 standings.
St. Lucia won the toss and elected to field. Openers Kyle Hope and Shoaib Malik partnered for 44 runs to get things started. Pooran, however, put the match away. He tallied 13 boundaries, including nine fours and four sixes, to help stake the Tridents to a total of 173.
In the chase, Zouks opener Johnson Charles was out for eight runs. Andre Fletcher scored a team-high 20 runs but the Zouks came up short.
“I learned a lot, especially as a young player,” Pooran said of Tridents Captain AB de Villiers. “I took this opportunity to learn a lot, especially from AB. AB is the best batsman in the world. Batting with him, it just; whenever you bat with him, it motivates you. You know, it’s a dream. It teaches you to enjoy your cricket, enjoy batting. The players motivate me a lot. Last game I didn’t have a good game at all. The players stuck with me, the team believes in me — especially the captain — and I just had to go out there and perform.”
