Sewing seeds of a career

When talk turns to employment opportunities for Caymanians, discussion often centers on trades like construction, mechanics and other skilled occupations.
But stitching together a career plan can involve fabric needles and thread, and the computer graphics that design clothing and household furnishings.

The ability to break into other fields from designing is being looked at more seriously by some embroiders on island who believe the career has great potential to cross over into major industries such as the hotel industry and education.

The manufacture of bed-sheets, drapes, curtains and other industrial fabric is fully on the minds of designers who believe the craft of tailoring could provide a host of employment opportunities for young Caymanians.

Cayman 27’s Mario Grey has more on a skilled trade with potential at home and abroad.
