AB de Villiers smashed a team-high 63 runs and teammate Shoaib Malik added a half-century as the Barbados Tridents picked up their first win of the 2016 HERO Caribbean Premier League season with a seven-wicket win over the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

The Patriots batted first and quickly saw opener Lendl Simmons caught out for two runs. Evin Lewis reached a team-high 50 as the Patriots set a total of 162. The Tridents caught them with eight balls to spare.

“Yeah I’m pleased,” Tridents player Kieron Pollard said afterward. “Getting over the line in any cricket game is what you want. Yes we won, but there are always areas to improve on. I think we bowled pretty well on this wicket. It wasn’t a 160 wicket and I think for the bowlers to restrict St. Kitts to 160 was a very good effort by all the bowlers.”
