Under-20 footballers done at CFU championship

Cayman’s footballers are done at the Caribbean Football union Under-20 qualifiers but not before remaining in contention to advance through the group finale.

Cayman beat Anguilla 4-1 Friday (1 July) thanks to goals from Zachary Scott, Sebastian Martinez, Michael Martin-Cruz and Leighton Thomas. The win drew Cayman even with Bermuda for second place in the group heading into the third and final match of group play.

There, Cayman fell to group winner Haiti, 5-0, and Bermuda beat Anguilla to clinch second place in the group and end Cayman’s run in the tournament.

Haiti won the group with nine points while Bermuda finishes with six and advances to the tournament quarterfinals as one of the best second-place group finishers. Cayman took third in its group with three points and Anguilla finished without a point.
