Red Cross’ popular “Deals on wheels” is more than a mobile thrift shop.
All the proceeds from this pop-up store help fund programmes from disaster management, to first aid as well as initiatives that look out for the safety of children who are victims of abuse.
The Red Cross programme “Darkness to light” builds awareness of the sexual abuse that happens here and teaches people how to notice the signs that can help them identify and assist victims.
The Red Cross says with one in ten children being sexually abused before the age of 18 and one in five girls, it’s not enough to stay silent, out of concern that saying something could affect a livelihood.
“The rate is alarming, the percentage is alarming, so people need to know about it, how they can protect their own child, their own children and the communities children as well,” said Bilal Ahmad, Red cross programmes support officer.
