In light of the threat posed by the Zika virus, Pregnant women can now request the Mosquito Research and Control Unit make a special trip to have their homes and workplaces sprayed for mosquitos.
The MRCU told Cayman 27 it’s committed to protecting those most at risk from Zika; expectant mothers and their unborn babies.
Assistant Director Dr. Alan Wheeler said pregnant women can call the MRCU, and it will send crews to treat the area with thermal fogging as soon as possible.
“We’ve also been focusing our efforts in other high risk areas that are associated with pregnant women. Right now our guys are out treating preschools with the assumption being that young mothers are the most likely to be pregnant, and if thrum child catches the disease they can take it back to the mother. We are currently treating high schools, from there we will move on to the older schools, the high schools,” said Dr. Wheeler.
Dr. Wheeler told Cayman 27 the response from pregnant women has been staggering so far.
He said the MRCU will work to treat the long list of addresses that as quickly as it can.
