Major road works are taking place on the Linford Pearson highway, impacting the water supply. That’s because its current 12-inch water pipeline is situated in an area that a new lane will be covering, which means the water authority has to build a new water main on the southern edge of the Linford Pearson highway.
If the existing water main stayed and a new lane was paved over it, this could cause problems for commuters on the road.
“N-R-A doesn’t like it because if we ever have to have a leak or something else we will have to, you know, we will be affecting traffic quite a bit and it will be costly road repairs, on the other hand, for our sake, we don’t like the idea that we have to do repair in the middle of a fast lane it would be dangerous to our staff,” said Tom Van Zanten, Water Authority operations manager.
The water authority will start laying a pipeline between the Linford Pearson roundabout by kings sports center to Halifax road and hope to have that completed before Christmas, weather permitting.
