Zika test only for pregnant women with symptoms

The announcement of Cayman’s first two locally transmitted cases of Zika has intensified the concerns from women who are pregnant or may soon start a family.

The Island’s acting Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Samuel Williams said the Center for Disease Control and prevention (CDC) in the United States have recommended Zika testing for all pregnant women while the Caribbean Public Health Agency is following guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) that only pregnant women who are showing signs of Zika Symptoms will be eligible for testing for the virus.

Cayman 27’s Mario Grey has the recommendations of the country’s top health official.
