Concerns over lawyers bill

For years Caymanian lawyers have been complaining about being disadvantaged in their own country, lamenting a lack of opportunities for equity partnerships at local firms.
Premier Hon Alden McLaughlin, who is also an attorney, consistently vowed throughout his sixteen year political career that he would address those issues legislatively. While there were stumbling blocks along the way, Mr McLaughlin has taken the Legal Practitioners’ Bill forward from its drafting stage straight to the L.A. However the question is does it make the cut?….. Law Society President Alasdair Robertson has welcomed the changes, but attorney Sammy Jackson gave his take on the provisions in the long-awaited bill.
