The Cayman National Men’s Rugby 7s team has begun its fundraising efforts in hopes to return to the prestigious Hong Kong 7s Tournament in April 2017.

The team held its first annual 5k Walk/Run fundraiser, raising over $3,000, which will go towards helping the team prepare for the tournament, assuming the men’s team qualifies.

Cayman Islands made its debut at the tournament in 2016, becoming the 58th nation to take part in the Hong Kong Sevens. The men played the host nation, Germany and Zimbabwe.

The cup winners were Fiji, who have since won their first Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio.
