Two men accused of molesting an 11-year old relative walk free today and the judge blames police.
The RCIPS says in a statement it accepts the criticism levied in Grand Court Thursday (15 September) morning by Justice Timothy Owen, who says delays in investigating the matter impacted the judgement.
The men were acquitted four years after the police probe began.
Cayman 27 will not name the men in order to protect the identity of the complainant, who is a minor.
The men faced accusations they forced the child to perform oral sex and touched her inappropriately. It emerged during the trial the abuse may have started several years before police involvement.
The investigation first began in 2012 but the men were not arrested until nearly 18 months later.
