Keeping our children safe

It’s back to school time and that means for some kids, back to the field, court or pool.

We spoke to Big Brothers, Big Sisters Angela Sealy on last nights (Wednesday 14 September) Lets Talk Sports, about keeping your child safe.

Mrs. Sealy says although your child is at practice for a few hours at a time, their safety is still the parents responsibility.

“What we have to be very cognoscenti about is, when parents think about the fact they want to develop the growth of their children and they want their children to be involved in sporting activities or any other activities for that matter. It is important that they don’t see that as the mentors or the coaches responsibility. The safety of their child is their number one responsibility and then everyone else comes in after.”

Mrs. Sealy says communication is key and emphasizes the importance of speaking to your child regularly, understanding their body language and always asking questions.
