One former MLA says Cayman must make George Town unique in order to revitalise the capital.

Lucille Seymour says thousands of people work in George Town and there needs to be a multifaceted approach is keeping them there once they’re off the clock.

“If we can get the cruise berthing going, it will bring more life, more employment into George Town,” Ms. Seymour said. “It is really sad — I drove through George Town one day  last week when a ship wasn’t in and it was the saddest thing. I didn’t see anybody. And we need to get the locals to go into town for a reason. We need to put a special ordinance for the city of George Town and make it different. Have special laws for it. And also to have special areas where people can rent.”

Ms. Seymour has been a long-time advocate of pumping more life into the capital.

She has not yet confirmed whether she intends to run in the 2017 general election.
