Cayman Islands Women’s Gaelic Football team makes history, by making it to the finals at the 2016 US Gaelic Athletic Association Finals in Seattle.
The woman came in as the underdogs, winning their first match against the hosts, Seattle, 25 to 16. In a much harder game, weather permitting, Cayman took the lead winning their second game to Pittsburgh 12 to 2. Unfortunately, the ladies lost in the to the defending champions, Denver, in the finals 16 to 27.
Shane Martin, CIGFC coach says, “Each year we send a men and lady’s team up to the US and this year for the first time we got to the final and unfortunately were beaten by Denver in the last game. But over all it was a great performance and certainly the best performance a travelling team has ever managed to do.”
The men’s team were unlucky on their first day losing their match to a team from Columbus in overtime, in the quarterfinals.
