One of Cayman’s top basketball players has resigned with his English club.
Lloyd Samuels inked to play again with the Tees Valley Mohawks, according to the team’s website.
He was the club’s second signing of the summer and this will be his fourth season with the team. He scored 13 points recently in a National Basketball League second-round National Cup win over Sheffield Hallam Sharks.
Samuels averaged 14 points and six rebounds per game two seasons ago before dropping off statistically last season as the team was relegated to Division 2 of the NBL.
“After a tough season last year it should have made the club and all of us as individuals take a serious look in the mirror and make suitable changes for the future,” Samuels is quoted as saying in a team news release. “I’m excited to see the growth of the team heading into the new season.”
Tees Valley has been a popular destination for Cayman’s top cagers. Caymanians Jorge Ebanks and Jerome Narcisse also have played with the club in recent years.
Tees Valley now plays in Division 2 of the NBL, the third tier of English basketball.
