Domestic violence continues its upward trend not only in the region but here at home in Cayman.
Visiting University of the West Indies lecturer Professor Verene Shepherd, speaking on Tuesday’s (November 15) Daybreak says it requires attention.

Professor Shepherd, who addressed the UCCI’s annual distinguished lecture series at Harquail Theatre Tuesday night, pointed to statistics demonstrating a rise in domestic violence here in Cayman and its implications

“We see a rise from 1741 in 2009 to 1859 in 2013 and its growing. So it’s a worrying trend, it reflects the hold of patriarchal ideologies and the view that women are to somehow be in the domestic space as inferior to men,” she says.
Also addressing the lecture series Dr Dalea Bean who discussed the prevalence and the contemporary issues surrounding domestic violence.
