Marine experts from around the world are in Cayman for the 69th annual conference for the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute. (GCFI)

The officials are brainstorming ideas on policy strategies hoping to spark a new paradigm of thinking to urge Caribbean marine specialists to take on a global perspective on fisheries.

Chairperson for the GCFI Board of Directors Nancy Brown-Peterson said an important topic at the conference is continuing the conservation of the Nassau Grouper.

“Our keynote speaker Dr. Bryce Simmons talked about the Nassau grouper the spawning aggregations and the fact that they are recovering in little Cayman unfortunately not so much in grand Cayman,” Mrs. Brown-Peterson said.

Cayman 27’s Mario Grey caught up with the officials and those..who know fish.
