The Home Affairs ministry is defending Prisons Director Neil Lavis against allegations that he gave preferential treatment to a female manager who was a former friend.
The ministry released a statement saying reports elsewhere had misrepresented the nature of a ruling from the gender equality tribunal in which four male managers successfully claimed discrimination in their salary payments.
The ministry says Mr. Lavis disclosed his friendship with the female manager but that he played no part in the hiring process nor was he responsible for signing off on her salary payments.
