The popular Facebook page “Humans of New York” has started a trend globally of people documenting stories in their individual communities, even here in the Cayman Islands
Kristie Johnson got the idea to start a humans of series in Cayman after a post she uploaded on her Facebook page of a disenfranchised young man, gained a lot of attention through shares and comments
Her plan is to give those who believe they are voiceless a voice
“A lot of these persons that I get these stories from will say to me, can you please keep things anonymous, can you please alter this story in some form shape or way that they won’t know who I am and that is because in Cayman we have this secrecy policy and with that secrecy policy, a lot of things are swept under the rug and for these stories. We want these stories to be more that are told in terms of bringing to light the issues that we have here,” said Humans of Cayman writer, Kristie Johnson.
