A Senior Immigration Officer charged with drug and immigration offences made her first court appearance Tuesday (29 November).

Jeannie Lewis is charged with permitting her premises to be used for the supply of controlled drugs in addition to knowingly assisting an illegal landing.

In a brief appearance today, her attorney requested a case management hearing and Ms. Lewis had her bail extended until 15 December. She was arrested in August as part of a firearm operation in Savannah where police said they found a gun and drugs in her home.

“It is vital that the facts are thoroughly established as quickly as possible,” Acting Immigration Officer Bruce Smith is quoted as saying in a statement from the department. “As such, the Department of Immigration will continue to fully cooperate with the investigation and will provide assistance or information to the RCIPS as necessary in the public interest.”

Ms. Lewis was put on required leave after her arrest.
