A sentencing date of 14 December was confirmed in Summary Court on Tuesday (22 November) for Nicholas Tibbetts, the man convicted in a fatal hit and run from 2015 along the Linford Pierson Highway.

Mr. Tibbetts, 25, of Bodden Town is an immigration officer who pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving in the crash that killed bicyclist Donnie Connor, 59, in the early morning hours of 23 April 2015. Mr. Tibbetts told a relative he had been out drinking that night and had little memory of the events surrounding the collision.

Investigators were tipped to Mr. Tibbetts’ vehicle in the days following the death. Officers arriving at his home on 26 April reported noticing recent repairs and fresh paint of a different color on his Honda Torneo. Mr. Tibbetts later acknowledged having repairs made in the hours following the collision and helping dispose of damaged parts in the George Town landfill less than 24 hours later.

Bail was continued for Mr. Tibbetts until his sentencing.
