As far as Cayman 27 is concerned, the holiday season started Saturday (3 December) when it hosted the 2016 Parade of Lights event.

The First Baptist Church choir serenaded about 5,000 people that came out for the show, hosted by Janelle Muttoo and Kevin Morales. Thirteen boats registered, lighting up water and wowing the crowd.
In the end, the esteemed panel of judges voted Red Sail’s Tropical Wave the large boat category winner with their “underwater Christmas” theme.
The Beachcomber’s “Christmas castaway” entry won in the small boat category.

“We just love it,” Red Sail’s Mark Tarsh said while appearing on the 5 December episode of Daybreak of participating in the event. “And then what we do is donate the actual money to charity. So this year we’re actually splitting it between the Lighthouse School and Special Olympics.”

“The fun of it is getting the kids on the boat and letting them have a good time,” Beachcomber’s Amanda Evans said. “It’s a lot of work but the end result, it’s worth it. So it’s just a nice kick off to the Christmas holidays.”

Wrapping up the festivities was a fireworks display lasting a little over five minutes.
