Dariel Ebanks and Hopkin Ebanks advance in Caribbean Championships

Two of Cayman’s Amateur boxers, Dariel Ebanks and Hopkin Ebanks have advanced into the next round of the Caribbean Boxing Championships in Barbados.

Dariel Ebanks won his first fight against the experienced Ian Darby of Jamaica in the Elite Light Heavyweight Division dominating Darby with impact body shots.

The showdown between Ebanks and Darby was set on a boxing card in Kingston last month but Darby was scratched from that event finally meeting his opponent at the Caribbean tournament.

Hopkin Ebanks was set to square up against Shemar Bertram of St. Maarten in the Middleweight Division but Bertram pulled out just before the match.

Also fighting in the opening round was Alexander Smith up against Christopher Moore of Guyana in the Junior Lightweight Division. Despite starting off strong with an even first round Smith lost confidence as the fight went on resulting in a loss for the 17-year-old.

Both Dariel Ebanks and Hopkin Ebanks will now advance to the next round of the tournament on Friday 9 December.
