Jamaica is again attempting to elevate its presence in the Winter Olympics, this time on the ice. Under the newly established Jamaican Olympic Ice Hockey Federation, Jamaica will now begin to develop a hockey team that will aim to qualify for Olympic competition. Lester Griffin, the program’s assistant manager and a former hockey player himself says there’s a significant number of players of Jamaican descent already competing in Canada and in the american hockey league and that several of them have expressed an interest in representing Jamaica at the international level..If successful, Jamaica would potentially be grouped with the likes of the United States and reigning Olympic champions, Canada.
