Customers will soon be able to pick up a six-pack and a bottle of wine from a soon-to-open gas station complex in Red Bay.

The liquor licensing board granted businessman Gary Rutty’s application to sell alcohol at the new Rubis station’s convenience store. The application faced objections from a group of liquor store owners, but the liquor board told Cayman 27 it could find no reason to turn down the application.

Mr. Rutty said he’s pleased with the decision, and hopes to be open for business next week, pending inspections.

The liquor licensing board says its possible similar businesses will apply for permission to sell package liquor on their premises at the next quarterly meeting in March.
