Police say an officer used a taser to subdue a man who they say assaulted one of their officers after they issued him a parking ticket.
A 44-year-old George Town man was arrested outside a nightclub at The Strand early Saturday (3 December) for assaulting police, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct at a licensed premises.
Police say the incident began when they issued a parking ticket and the man removed it and placed it on a different car.
Police approached the man, who they say was intoxicated and attacked an officer. They say the man reached for an officer’s taser when a second officer then tased him.
While waiting for medical assistance, police say the man then struck one of the officers.
The man was treated and released from the hospital. He’s now on police bail. An officer was also treated for minor injuries.
The incident prompted police to ask liquor-licensed establishments to be more aware of the level of intoxication of their patrons.
