Truth in advertising guidelines established

The Information and Communications Technology Authority establishes truth in advertising guidelines for local licensees.
It outlines its expectations of licensees when it comes to products and service claims making it clear marketing information should not materially mislead consumers.
The guidelines do not list penalties for any breaches. ICTA says it retains the ability to depart from the guidelines where the circumstances warrant it.
It guards against obvious exaggerations or claims and misinformation by omission.
ICTA Director Alee Fa`amoe says the key is to be as open and transparent as possible.
He adds consumers have a right to receive clear, intelligible, unambiguous, timely information.
