Cayman says goodbye to Mike Simmons

The Cayman Islands lost a business leader and inspirational figure to many.

Mike Simmons died Monday (12 June) morning.

He was a charter member of the Lions Club of Grand Cayman, where those who knew him describe him as a humanitarian, a pioneer, mentor and father figure.

He originally was from Turks and Caicos and moved to the Bahamas before moving to Cayman nearly five decades ago.

He was one of the pioneers of developing Cayman’s infrastructure in the 1960s and went on to own and run several businesses and restaurants. He also was a founding shareholder of Cayman National Bank.

Mr. Simmons was 81 years old.
