A man is dead following a shooting Saturday (20 January) on Eastern Avenue.
Police have not released his name “pending formal identification,” however in a media statement a short while ago (21 January) they said the deceased man is a 28-year-old resident of George Town.
This is the second shooting in less than a week and first murder in Cayman for 2018. Last Monday (15 January), musician Dexter Bodden was shot outside his George Town home, also on Eastern Avenue. He remains hospitalized.
A video of the man shortly after he was shot has been making the rounds on social media and today (21 January) the police are asking members of the public to cease sharing the graphic images “out of respect for the victim and his family.”
No other details on the shooting were made available. Police did not say in their release whether any arrests were made.
However they are urging those who took these images, or anyone else who may have information about this crime, to come forward, even anonymously. They say detectives in the RCIPS Major Incident Room are available on 649-4502 until 5 p.m. today, 21 January Sunday, and tomorrow, Monday 22 January (public holiday.)
After 5 p.m. anyone with information can call the GTPS at 949-4222. To remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS).
