Sammy O’Garro scored 22 points while adding 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the Sol Blazers to their 6th Cayman Islands Basketball Association (CIBA) title with a 66-59 win Tuesday (22 May) over the Burger King Warriors in game two of the Men’s Division One finals.
“We are a championship team, we’ve been here before. We did what we had to do, stay strong, be patient. A lot of people don’t understand about when you play in the finals about staying patient. We tried to do that as best as possible and it worked out for us.”
Brother Shaad O’Garro pitched in with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. Warriors Collin Anglin said the game plan was to limit the O’Garro brothers throughout the game. It did not work.
“We played a good game, we followed the game plan most of the way but with a game like, that it was well contested. They made some shots, we missed between 10-15 free throws, overall we were right there.”
Warriors Deandre Simpson lead the way for the Warriors with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks. Tikko Moore pitched in with 18 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist.
The Blazers game two win Tuesday evening gave the Blazers a 2-0 series sweep, after a 78-65 win in game one.
