NWS expects to issue flood warnings over rainy weekend

As the rain continues, the National Weather Service expects to issue flood warnings over the weekend.

NWS Director General John Tibbetts told Cayman 27 the rain is expected to stick around until next week Wednesday – as the newly-christened sub-tropical storm Alberto makes its way north from Belize.

He said Cayman’s soil is already saturated after several days of rain.

“Going into this weekend, we are going to have some higher values of showers then he would normally get,” explained Mr. Tibbetts. “For example on Sunday, they are saying that we may get 2.5 inches of rainfall on Sunday, that is mainly for the sister islands. On Monday, we are expecting something in the order of about 3 1/2 inches, so a lot of rain still coming this weekend. Look for National Weather Service to start to put back out some flood warnings for the weekend.”
