Squash community honors former champion, president with second annual ‘Jeffrey Broderick Special’

The South Sound Squash Club was overflowing Saturday (12 May) with 40 players taking part in the second annual ‘Jeffrey Broderick Special’. Friends and teammates say Broderick, who suddenly passed away in 2017, was an integral part of the Squash community in Cayman.

“He was instrumental in getting a lot of people to play squash. This is a celebration more than a memorial because Jeff himself was a ‘glass half full’ type of person” said friend and tournament organizer Mark Whiteside.

Broderick was the Cayman Islands national men’s squash champion in 1983, 1994, 1995, and 1998. He also represented the Cayman Islands internationally as both a player and a coach at events such as the Caribbean Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
