12 investigations logged at the Department of Education Services for 2018

We are six months into 2018 and already the Department of Education Services has logged 12 investigations, mainly involving teachers.

The investigations relate to a range of allegations from inappropriate behaviour to failure to comply with policy and alleged contact with a student.

The information came to light through a Cayman 27 Freedom of Information request.  The FOI  spanned a four-year period and, from the document we received, 64 investigations were conducted, 12 of which were this year only.

Those recent investigations involved 12 teachers and 2 support staff members.

A breakdown by years showed eight were conducted in 2014, 10 in 2015, 16 in 2016, 18 in 2017 and 12 in 2018.

Overall, 43 teachers — or as the Department calls them, educationalists — were investigated while 21 staffers like admin personnel, groundsmen and support staff were under investigation.

There were only eight instances of required leave. You can view the full FOI document here: DES ER FOI May 2018
