Government’s year-long celebration of the 60th anniversary of our Coat of Arms was launched Monday (4 June) on the grounds of the Glass House.
The celebrations are dedicated to raising the awareness of the Cayman Islands first nation-identifying symbol.
Today, members of the public, together with current and past members of the Legislative Assembly (LA) gathered for the launch of Celebrate Cayman. Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin said the event aims to celebrate a significant milestone for this country.
“Hitherto we had always been under Jamaica and wrapped into Jamaica whatever we did and I think it was a clear indication that for the first time Caymanians were seeking to distinguish themselves their islands what we are and who we are,” said Premier McLaughlin.
At the ceremony Government also unveiled a new copy of the Royal Warrant from the UK to Cayman Islands announcing our separation from Jamaica.
