Government continues negotiations for waste management facility

Government continues to negotiate with a Dart-led group of companies to build the country’s next waste management facility. Hopes are to have planning approval and an environmental impact assessment done by the first quarter of next year.

Back in October, Government announced the Dart-led consortium was picked as the preferred bidder for the half-billion dollar project.

It’s set to include a waste-to-energy facility, recycling and new landfill. At that time, project leaders said negotiations could take between six months and a year.

Ministry of Health Chief Officer Jennifer Ahearn says discussions center around technical, financial and legal reserve matters. She says work is being done on draft environmental impact assessment terms and those will be released to the public once finalized.
