Basketball: Thrashers take out Hoopsters in Week Two action

Micah O’Garro scored 29 points while adding 12 rebounds and 6 steals to lead the Thrashers to a 44-27 win over the CI Hoopsters in Week Two of the Cayman Islands Basketball Association (CIBA) Under-19 League held Saturday (13 October) at the John Gray Gymnasium.

“We played hard on defense. We pressed the ball. We didn’t give them any open shots, we tried our hardest on defense, and tried to execute the most on offense.”

In the loss, Hoopsters Keon Jennings scored 9 points with 3 steals, while Nathaniel Anderson added 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals.
 
 
Sol Blazers 63
Hawks 58 
 
Blazers Deontae Andrews led the way with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals as the Blazers downed the Hawks 63-58. The Blazers were also helped by a double-double from Tazmar Dawkins who scored 14 points, 15 rebounds and 8 steals while adding 5 assists and 2 blocks. In the loss, Hawks Revaughn Johnson dominated the glass with 19 points and 23 rebounds.
 
Week 2: U19 Women
WV Fearless 40 
WV Boldness 39 
 
A Naomi Hunter double-double of 12 points and 10 steals led Fearless to a 40-39 victory over Boldness. In the loss, Boldness’ Lotoya Brown scored 11 points and 12 rebounds.
 
WV Spirit 66 
CHHS Legendz 11 
 
Jasmine Martin’s 32 points led the way as Spirit topped the Clifton Hunter High School Legendz 66-11. CHHS’s Elia Eden had 4 points on the day.
 
DREAM 54 
WV Courage 37 
 
2018 CIBA Rookie of the Year Oneissha Cayasso was a one-woman show scoring 38 points and 14 rebounds while adding 2 steals and 2 blocks as DREAM topped Courage 54-37. DREAM’s Chloe Ebanks pitched in with 8 points and 15 rebounds, while Neandre Forbes snatched 21 rebounds. In the loss, Lyandrea Watson had 23 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 steals.
