Garbage woes: Harris says lack of will at DEH to make dismissals

As some communities continue to struggle with garbage collection government MLA Austin Harris says action needs to be taken against errant Department of Environmental Health (DEH) employees.
Mr. Harris addressed the issue Wednesday (24 October) during the Public Accounts Committee meeting.

He said there must be a level of accountability from top to bottom.

“What is lacking at DEH is the will to terminate persons who are not fulfilling the job requirements, persons who are guilty, if you will, of on the job infractions,” said Mr. Harris.

Acting Deputy Governor Hon. Gloria-McField testified before the committee and addressed all concerns raised.

She said there is a process in place to deal with disciplinary action, whether it is from the ground level or management.
