Swimming: Crooks sets PB at Youth Olympic Games

16-year old Jordan Crooks set a personal best in the men’s 50-meter freestyle Tuesday (9 October) at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Swimming in Heat Four, Crooks finished fourth overall with a time of 23.88 seconds, edging his previous best of 23.96 set at this summer’s Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation Championships.

“I was a little nervous going into it, but I just tried to relax. I just got our there and did my best, and I happened to got time. My start felt good so I felt really confident starting off the race, and through the entire race I felt strong, so I was confident my time would be good.”

Crooks finished 25th overall out of 54 swimmers. With just the top 16 advancing, he would not go through to tonight’s semifinals but will get another chance at a medal in Thursday’s 100-meter freestyle.
