Commerce Minister Hon. Joey Hew said he hopes the public will take advantage of a new online option for vehicle registration renewals.
Mr. Hew told Cayman 27 the DVDL handles around 8,000 renewals in an average month. Now that a new online option is available, he said customers can skip the queue at the counter entirely.
“We can’t make it any simpler,” said Mr. Hew. “When I first took office, they came to me and said we need to build bigger buildings, we need more counters, and my response was no, we need to make it easier for people to transact with the government and not have to attend these offices, so we don’t have to keep building buildings.”
There are currently two DVDL services that can be done online – vehicle license renewals and driver’s license renewal.
Driver’s license renewals can only be done if you are a registered user, which requires you to get an e-signature number, or ESID, in person from the DVDL.
For vehicle license renewals, no ESID is needed for the online platform.
