Use public transport to take cars off the road says Bryan

George Town Central MLA Kenneth Bryan says a proper functioning public transport system can take cars off the road and alleviate Cayman’s issues with traffic.

Figures coming out of the NRA safety conference last week put the number of cars on Cayman’s roads at 32,000 compared with a population of 66,000.

Mr. Bryan said improvements to public transport can help take many of those cars off the roads.

“That could be one of the strategies from a traffic reduction perspective, but it doesn’t seem to be a priority for the government. We spend a lot of money trying to make new roads, but how about trying to make less cars on the road. That could be just as effective,” said Mr. Bryan.

Mr. Bryan has also suggested Cayman look at a re-formulated public/private partnership for bus ownership that will see government-owned buses, operated by private hands with set work hours and salaries.
