Veterans’ annual poppy appeal begins

The Cayman Islands Veterans Association began their annual poppy appeal Wednesday (10 October) and the former servicemen pinned the first poppy on acting Governor Hon. Franz Manderson at the Government Administration Building.

The poppy flower is used in remembrance of soldiers who have died during wartime. Mr. Manderson said it’s important to remember those who served.

“I’m surrounded by persons who served in various wars and certainly we want to recognize those people that made the ultimate sacrifice, to give us that great quality of life that we have today. We want to thank them and we always want them to know that we remember them,” said Mr. Manderson.

Donations can be made in collection boxes at the Government Administration Building and at many locations in Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands. All money raised in the poppy appeal goes towards welfare for veterans in the Cayman Islands.
