Government says it is getting closer to sealing the deal on financing the purchase of Cayman’s new helicopter.
Back in 2016, the RCIPS chopper was deemed not fit for purpose when it comes to search and rescue in Cayman.
Since then there have been discussions on a new chopper.
On Wednesday (21 November) Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin told legislators talks on the financing for the chopper is nearing an end.
“I can say Mr. Speaker that we have reached agreement with the UK government on the proposal to acquire this new helicopter. We have worked out the sharing of cost,” the Premier said.
Mr. McLaughlin said next week government and the Governor will issue a joint statement on the purchase.
